South Africa: Tourist accommodation occupancy rate

Between January 2007 and February 2020, the average occupancy rate across South Africa's accommodation industry was 45%. The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020 led the government to restrict people's movement to curb the spread of the virus. Occupancy rates averaged 35% in 2023.

Data is updated monthly and is based on the occupation rate of people staying in hotels, bed and breakfasts, guest houses, guest farms camping grounds, caravan parks and lodges. It is seasonally adjusted.
